(White lions on a red background simply won’t do!)
Why oh why is the first of an Ashes Test series with Australia located in Cardiff, Wales? Correct me if I am wrong, but is not Wales supposed to be another nation, a different nation? After all, they even have their own patois for the venue, Sophia Gardens ~ Gerddi Soffia. Perhaps the England Cricket powers that be secretly want Wales to become integrated with England?
If my vague recollection is correct, England never do well when the ‘home’ matches are set in Wales! (Was not the final game of a One Day series lost under the Duckworth-Lewis Rules a few years ago in the Millennium Stadium denying the England team a clean sweep?)
Yet again an England team is denied all the advantages, if advantages there be, of a home game! It is almost as those presiding over England’s cricket (the ‘good sports’ that they wish to appear) are determined to minimise the chances of the team winning.
As I write, the start is being delayed . . . by rain! it will be interesting to see how many of the starts of other Tests in England will be delayed by rain.
If England lose this Test match or it is drawn by reason of time lost by rain, remember you read that probability here first!
