The British press and broadcasters are quick to label any actual or perceived shortcomings in the public sector as ‘yet another public sector failure’.
Well, just to redress the balance, I would observe that this is yet another failure of the private sector to join its deficiences in banking (both in standards and operation) and house building as just two other examples which spring to mind.
Remember also the G4S fiasco at the start of the 2012 Olympics in England when HM Government felt constrained to deploy Army personnel the total of which it has subsequently significantly reduced ? We should not forget the dangerous criminals who have absconded from prisons ‘managed’ by private sector firms!
Despite this, the Coalition Government insists upon and persists with placing important functions under the control of private organisations.
As Albert Einstein once opined: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.
