The 553rd Anniversary of one of England’s bloodiest battles in the Wars of the Roses was marked on Saturday, 28 th March by 15th Century re-enactment groups which marched the 14 miles from Clifford’s Tower in the City of York to Dacre’s Cross on Towton battlefield.

The actual Battle was fought on Psalm Sunday, 29th March 1461. Estimates of the number of those killed range from 30,000 up to 38,000.
The ‘Road to Towton’ project raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support precipitated by the recent death of a Wars of the Roses medieval re-enactor, and has had £1,265 donated so far.
