The adverse impact of Scots on England’s affairs is largely unmentioned in the British Press, and silence about this seems likely to continue. Perhaps this explains why the Western Daily Press has thus far not published my response to recent comments made by a Lib Dem Scot.

Reply to Sir Graham Watson
Do we English really need the comments of a Scottish carpetbagger, Lib Dem MEP Sir Graham Watson, approving the belated actions of his political associates in government? [WDP 10 Mar 2014] Indeed, it is all very well for another Scot, Ian Liddell-Grainger MP for Bridgewater& Somerset West, retrospectively to vociferously criticise the Environment Agency for years of its deliberate neglect of the Somerset Levels, but what effective action did he take?
Nor should it be overlooked that yet another Scot, the Baroness Young of Old Scone, introduced the policy of deliberately halting drainage of the Somerset Levels whilst she was the Chief Executive of the Environment Agency from 2000 to 2008.
In his recent letter, Sir Graham ponders how schemes hastily devised in the immediate aftermath of the recent floods can be funded. Given that the Coalition Government has refused to apply to the EU Solidarity Fund for the “Immediate restoration to working order of infrastructure and plant in the fields of energy, drinking water, waste water, transport, telecommunications, health and education” [to quote from the Fund’s conditions], we may reasonably conclude that our ‘wealthy’ government, which does not need to disturb funding for foreign countries, can soon remedy the situation; but will it?
Despite Sir Graham’s pious words, who truly believes [again to quote from the Fund’s conditions] that the “Immediate securing of prevention infrastructures and measures to protect the cultural heritage” will be completed before next winter’s onslaught starts? It is high time the English elected their own to represent them. With the likes of Sir Graham Watson MEP, Liam Fox MP (Somerset North), James Gray MP (Wiltshire North) and of course Ian Liddle-Grainger, no wonder that England generally and her south west counties in particular receive scant attention and even scanter resources!
English Democrats will put England and her storm battered west country first!
