In staking Scotland’s claims to the UK’s (England’s) assets, Alex Salmond omits any reference to the vast liabilities incurred by Scottish banks based in Edinburgh. Here I refer to the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS).
As at 31 March 2013, RBS alone had £54 billion [yes, £54,000,000,000] outstanding Treasury support. SEE: http://www.nao.org.uk/highlights/taxpayer-support-for-uk-banks-faqs/
A pro-rata allocation of these and other such liabilities based on the proportion of population in Scotland would be simply inequitable!
It is solely voters in Scotland who are determining whether Scotland effectively dissolves the Union. The representatives of Scotland must not be permitted to saddle England with the huge debts which Scots and Scots alone in Scottish controlled banks incurred prior to 2008. England has already been financially raped enough by Scots thank you very much!
