Poor old Sol Campbell is one of the latest well known people playing the ‘race card’. He once played for the England Football Team, but has anyone ever heard him declare that he was English? Surely, this should be the first prerequisite for playing in what is purported to be a national team but, all too sadly, it is not!
As an English nationalist, I might, just might have more sympathy for Sol’s claim had he often proclaimed in the past that he was English. After all, Sulzeer Jeremiah “Sol” Campbell was born in London, ENGLAND! I have not read his self-justifying autobiography, but I would be very surprised if there is any record of what he regards as his national identity. However, if there is and if it is ‘English’, I do apologise.
I would be even more sympathetic to Mr Campbell if his team mates had made known that they wanted him as their captain! After all, there is more to being a team captain than football skills.
Campbell . . . now there’s a name to conjure with! I wonder if it was acquired the same way Moira Stuart’s was? If so, it might have been more appropriate for him to have played for Scotland.
