The Lib Dem MEP for the South West Region is a Scot, one Sir Graham Watson. Neither he nor Ian Liddle-Grainger (MP for Bridgwater & Somerset West) who is also a Scot has mentioned the EU Solidarity Fund, a fund “set up to respond to major natural disasters and express European solidarity to disaster-stricken regions within Europe” SEE HERE: http://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/thefunds/solidarity/index_en.cfm#3
All Liddle-Grainger seems able to do is berate the Environment Agency for having ceased dredging decades ago. He is right to do so, but his own inaction can also be called into question! Liddle-Grainger has been the MP for this Constituency since 2001, but one looks in vain for evidence of any efforts he has made to restart dredging in the County.
As for Sir Graham, he has been noticeable by his silence; he seems to have absolutely nothing constructive to contribute to dealing with the disasters in the South West Region affecting not only the Somerset Levels (alone bad enough) but also affecting the south coast of Devon cutting the rail link in Dawlish plus considerable damage to the coast of Cornwall.
Time for wholesale change in the political representation of the South West Region and its Parliamentary Constituencies. ENGLAND SHOULD BE GOVERNED BY THE ENGLISH!
